The PCUSA website has a good definition of what
Stewardship should mean to Presbyterians.
Stewardship is about making choices, as
individuals and in community. It is more than
giving money to the church. Stewardship is about
being faithful disciples, caring for and managing
all that God has given us.
Stewardship is not just one part of Christian
discipleship; it involves every aspect of life in
all the stages of life.
Stewardship is the grateful response to God's
grace and goodness. It requires a consideration of
how our choices affect us and others, of how we
can be good caretakers of the created world, and
of how we can best serve God as disciples of
Christ.
Black Mountain
members are urged to tithe their monetary
resources and pledge whatever amount they are able
to give regularly to the operation of the church.
At the same time they are encouraged to give of
their time and talents, filling out Time and
Talent questionnaires periodically to indicate
which areas they would like to work with in the
daily life of the church, whether it be in serving
on a specific committee, or helping host community
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, or teaching
Sunday School, or helping with the Logos program,
or in donating their handyman talents on the
property committee or in helping build houses for
Habitat for Humanity. There is a need, as
well as a use, for many kinds of talents in
our church.

“Responding
to God’s Generosity”
is our stewardship
theme for 2012. It
fits beautifully
with our plans to
create a culture of
generosity at BMPC.
As we see and
experience the
abundance of God’s
gifts in the life of
our church today, we
have a wonderful
story to share with
each other. Our own
stories will be
important as we
decide how we will
respond to the need
for our gifts of
money and time and
talent in 2012.
Your
Committee has
organized the
congregation so that
everyone will have
the opportunity to
spend a few minutes
with another member
or couple. We have
asked some of you to
initiate the visit.
Just think about how
much richer we will
be as a congregation
after we have
completed our time
together. We will
know each other
better and we will
have learned from
each other.
The purpose of the
visit is not to talk
about your pledge,
although your pledge
is important.
The purpose, rather,
is to relate to and
share with each
other. That
activity is what
lies at the heart of
generosity. We
want to share what
excites us about
God’s work through
this particular
congregation.
If you haven't yet
visited with your
suggested member,
you can do it at any
time. And if
you haven't yet
turned in your
pledge card and time
and talent sheet, do
so as soon as
possible so the
committee can finish
their Stewardship
work for 2012 with a
completed budget.
